Overview

Stewart Thorndike is a queer writer and director who makes feminist genre films. Her debut feature LYLE, starring Gaby Hoffmann, was voted the #1 Horror film of 2014 by Diabolique Magazine and one of the Top 5 horror films of 2014 by Buzzfeed. Vulture recently listed LYLE as one of the essential queer horror films of all time and in 2019 LYLE was selected to launch Fantastic Fest’s queer sidebar. 

She recently created a hybrid narrative podcast, COME ON, COME OUT, that takes on internalized homophobia and obsession. She does branded fashion videos, short documentaries and has previously been a contributing video editorialist for the New York Times. Stewart has a background in fine arts, earned her MFA in Film at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and is a recipient of the San Francisco Film Society’s Women Filmmaker Fellowship for women in genre. She is currently casting her second film, THE STAY.
